Korean drama review: The princess' man

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Opps......did I promised to update my blog on chinese new year events?(Seems like it's a decade ago)
Well, lets just forget about it since it's almost the end of February already and I've totally forgotten what I wanted to blog about at the first place. LOL!

So please, just forgive me. Kekeke~
(I wonder anyone actually looked forward to my new post?)

Finally, exams are over and semester 2 has come to an end. Time to enjoy my 3 weeks of holidays!
Woohoo~~

So how did I spend my 1st week?

The answer is no other than watching drama. Muahahaha!!!

Korean historical drama 'The Princess' Man'.

I didn't know about the existence of this drama until I watched KBS Drama Awards and I was like "Wow! It won so much awards? How come I never heard of it before?"

So out of curiosity, I started watching it and I'm glad I did.

Synopsis:
A tragic love story between the daughter of Prince Suyang and grandson of Kim Jong Seo. The son of Kim Jongseo, Seungyoo, is a handsome and wise man who carries a noble quality. Princess Seryeong, a daughter of King Sejo, aka prince Sooyang, is a cheerful, lively lady with a strong curiosity and bold personality. They fall in love instantly but later they find out that their parents are sworn enemies. It's a Chosun dynasty version of “Romeo and Juliet”.

As a tearjerker drama lover, how can I not fall in love with this heartbreaking drama?

It has interesting characters, good plot, a fusion of fact and fiction, beautiful cinematography and great actors and actresses especially Park Shi Hoo and Moon Chae Won.

This is Moon Chae Won as Se Ryeong and Park Shi Hoo as Seung Yoo.

Don't they look good together?

Trust me, both of them have great chemistry that will make you fall in love with them and the drama as well.

Park Shi Hoo

I didn't find him attractive at first as I've never like any guys with squinty eyes but as the drama intensifies, I find myself gradually falling for him. He has his own unique charms.

Well, he got to be the best looking ninja assassin of the year.

*sigh*

He got longer and silkier hair than I do.

Looking good in long hair, dude!

Moon Chae Won

Not really beautiful but pretty, especially in hanbok costume. I guess that is what makes her and Park Shi Hoo a great couple in the drama.

I got to say that all the hanbok costumes worn by them in the drama are so pretty that it make me wanna try on them too.

Review:

Warning: This is not a comedy romance type of drama so make sure to equip yourself with (lots of) tissues.

Out of all characters, my favourite would Se Ryeong. She is exactly my type of heroine. Bold, firm, kind and smart. What I admire most is her bravery. She is brave enough to oppose her father, the evil and ruthless king, for all his evil deeds. I guess she loves her father too, no matter how evil he is, by trying to stop him from being more evil(but eventually she fails). She is smart too, to be constantly using her title as 'the eldest daughter of SuYang' because she knows she is the apple of her father's eyes. No one dares to oppose her because opposing her means opposing her father.

The most memorable and heartbreaking death scene would be Jong's. Jong and princess Gyeong Hye both wed after an unexpected twist of fate but as time passes, the love and trust between them begin to grow little by little, stronger and stronger.

I really love the acting of both main actor and actress. Chae Won was literally seen crying in almost all episodes(except the first few, of course) and I wonder how she did it. Poor girl....her eyes must have been swollen. As for Shi Hoo, I'm in awe at how his small eyes could deliver various expressions of anger, love, hate and revenge, all at the same time. All I can say is both of them are awesome!

It's rare to have two favourite couples in a drama. Usually, we would focus more on the main couple and make them our bias. However, while watching 'The Princess Man', I couldn't help but to fall in love with both SeungYoo-SeRyeong couple and Jong-GyeongHye couple.

Oh, did I mention this drama is packed with actions too? I love the fighting scenes, especially the ones with Shi Hoo in it. I just love his ninja assassin role.

Did anyone not cried at the 'happy' ending?
Actually, I was a little sad that Seung Yoo turned blind. *WHY!!!* But I guess it's for the best. If he hadn't turn blind, he wouldn't have stopped his revenge. But both of them still get to be together, don't they? So I guess it's a happy ending.

This is one of those drama that got me engaged from the beginning till the end although there was once where I questioned myself if I should continue watching because the drama was getting too depressed but I continued watching anyway because I was on the 19th episode already and I was dying to know the ending. LOL!

Oh emm......what drama should I watch next?
Prosecutor Princess? But I can't seems to find any episodes of it uploaded on Youtube. *sigh*
I'm lucky that I still get to watch all the episodes of The Princess' Man on Youtube before it gets blocked or deleted.

LOL! I'm a Park Shi Hoo fan now.
He is currently my top favourite korean actor besides the good looking Lee Min Hoo.
XD

Real Steel: moral value

Monday, October 31, 2011

Hey, have you watched Real Steel? Yes. Real Steel the movie.

My sister and her boyfriend went to watch this movie yesterday because of it's many positive reviews and so I tagged along too.

That movie isn't that awesome like I hoped for or that exciting like some people described. I would say the movie is good, not awesome. Maybe robot boxing isn't mind blowing enough for me.

So, you've watched the movie? Did you learned something?

Most movies try to deliver some kind of moral value to the viewers and so did Real Steel.

Did the little boy win in the end? No. But he was ecstatic.

It doesn't matter if you win or lose in the end. It is the process that matters. Like our lives. Joy is not found in finishing something but by doing it.

No matter how many lemons life gave you, endure it. Do you best, enjoy and you're sure to love the outcome.

The Lighthouse Keeper

Thursday, October 6, 2011

Tears streamed down from my eyes as I finished the last few pages of The Lighthouse Keeper.

The Lighthouse Keeper takes the reader on a journey through the eyes of Peter O'Banyon, an 80 year old lighthouse keeper, back to the time of World War II. It tells a story about family, loss and eternal love. I guess this sums it all.

Tragedy after tragedy like a tsunami, it engulfs Peter. It seems like Peter's life is bound to tragedies. What moved me the most is the friendship between Peter and Joey. It hurts to find out that Joey have to die in the battle. Without Joey(him being the most interesting character in the story), Peter's life is never the same again. Although parted by death, I'm touched that at Peter's last moment of death, the first person that greeted him is his good old friend, Joey. He had never forgotten about him after so many years. This shows that friendship never dies. And Anna too. Peter's love for her never tires. This is a tale of the so called eternal love.

This story touched me in the end and made we weeped like a small kid. Though I feel that this story could be better if it wasn't written in a predictable way. The way the writer wrote makes the story predictable and often, what I predicted would happen next is right. There's nothing wrong with the storyline. I just personally feel it could have been better though. All in all, like what the book says, it's a tale that goes straight to the heart. It really did to mine.

I guess you don't know how I got this book? Nope. Not from the library. It is a second-hand book bought from Tai Kuang bookstore for only rm9.90. Yipee~ I'm gonna hit that bookstore again to hunt for more nice novels.

The Harmony Silk Factory review

Sunday, May 22, 2011

Finally finished reading the book, The Harmony Silk Factory.

This story, moves in a slow pace, is set in Malaya (now known as Malaysia). It tells the story of Johnny Lim, textile merchant, petty crook and inventor of the Amazing Toddy Machine, and his marriage to the beautiful Snow Soong.

In 1940, with the Japanese about to invade Malaysia, Johnny and Snow embark on their honeymoon to the mysterious Seven Maiden Islands, accompanied by a mercurial Japanese professor and Petter Wormwood, an Englishman adrift. Many years later, Wormwood looks back on this defining journey, while Snow's son goes in search of the truth of his mother and the infamous Chinese man he married.

The story is delivery in a unique way through three characters : Snow's son, Snow(through her diary) and Peter Wormwood. The most interesting of all I should say is Peter's.

Although set in Malaya with the Japanese about to invade, there's nothing much said about the war.

I wouldn't say this is the best story I've read so far. It's nice but certainly not my favourite.
My favourite books so far would be The Rice Mother, My Sister's Keeper, The Hobbit and The Bondmaid.

I'm currently reading The Lighthouse Keeper. Still halfway through though so can't say much about it. So far so good. Many tragedies happened it seems.

The end of My love, Patzzi

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Finally finished watching My love,Patzzi. Its a korean drama which consists of only 10 episodes. Jang Nara is cute and I think she acts well in the drama. I love the drama songs too, especially 'sweet dream' and 'I'll be there for you' both by Jang Nara. However, I'm not satisfied with the ending.

It doesn't really show who Songyi really like. Is it Hyun Sung or Seong Joon? I know the answer is Hyun Sung but I feel they should have more scenes to show that they like each other very much. I'm so dissapointed. Ish.....

I still prefer Dalja's Spring over My love,Patzzi. Although Dalja's Spring is longer(22 episodes) but its worth watching.

My love,Patzzi

Sunday, February 27, 2011

I'm watching episode 5 of 'My love,Patzzi' right now. Oh gosh! Damn! I hate Hee Won so much! Feel like slapping her everytime I see her. How can she be such a selfish person? Although its just a drama but I believe people like her do exist in this world. Damn....she is so irritating I have no idea how am I going to survive this drama. Gosh! I hope this drama better be good!

Dalja's Spring

Friday, February 25, 2011

I just watched Dalja's Spring today! Its a drama worth to be in my 'Must watch again' list. Its funny thanks to Dalja's character. I like the story and the flow of the drama. It doesn't drag to much like some other dramas. The actors acted very well especially Chaerim and the drama songs are nice too!

I'm not someone who is obsessed in korean dramas. I've watched quite some dramas but always stopped half way because I did not get hooked to them. Its either too boring or too naive for me.

The whole drama can be said in one word : Awesome!

Korean Dramas

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

When it comes to korean dramas, the first to pop up in my mind is Full House. Although it is not my first korean drama but somehow it gave me a deep impression.

Surprisingly, this drama turns out to be a hit series around the world and becomes a starting point of the korean wave.

The second drama will be Goong also known as Princess Hours.

The bubbly personality of the main female character is so funny and lovable it makes me wanting for more!

Talk about the dramas I have watched lately, its Fugitive: Plan B and Mary Stayed Out All Night.

The story of Fugitive: Plan B revolves around Jini(main female character), the gold, polices, private investigators and those people behind the whole story. Well, I'm not going to explain the whole story as it is quite complicated. Just like IRIS.
This drama is full of actions especially from Rain. Rain acts as Jiwoo, a famous private investigator who later finds himself in trouble after accepting Jini's case.

Well, I'm going to stop right here and its up to you to find out the whole story.

Last but not least, this is the drama I'm watching right now. Its Mary Stayed Out All Night or Marry Me,Mary!

This is a romantic comedy. ( Just what I like!) Its kind of cheesy but its so funny and the main actors look so good together. Jang Geun Suk/Mu Gyul actually look good in long hair too. Prettier than me! Geez....seriously! He definitely caught my heart with his superb acting skills. I wonder why this drama is so underrated.

Here is the sypnosis for this drama:

Wi Mae Ri is the cheerful, pragmatic daughter of a failed businessman who had grown used to being constantly on the move to escape from debtors. She becomes fast friends with the free-spirited indie singer Kang Moo Kyul when she nearly ran him over in a car. Meanwhile, her father Wi Dae Han is saved from his debtors by his old friend, Jung Suk, who had just returned from considerable success in the Japanese entertainment industry. Jung Suk, who had harboured a secret love for Mae Ri's mother, sets up a deal with Dae Han to have Mae Ri marry his son, Jung In. In her desperate to escape this predicament, Mae Ri begs Moo Kyul to pose as her husband, and finds herself in even more trouble than before when her father proposes a 100-day period in which she has to divide her time equally between Moo Kyul and Jung In, after which she has to decide who to marry.

I'm currently watching episode 12. Four more episodes to go!

Movies and Singapore

Thursday, December 30, 2010

30 Dec 2010
Tuesday

This is the month that I watched the most movie. Rapunzel, Harry Potter, Narnia, Tron Legacy and Guilver's Travels. Of course my favourite goes to Rapunzel which caught my heart with humor and romance. Then followed by Harry Potter for its wizardy excitements. Lastly Tron Legacy for its super-cool-actions.

On the other hand,Narnia did not gave me the excitment I expected although Prince Caspian is really good looking. I guess I'll give it a point for that.Hehe..) Guliver's Travel is just humorous and nothing else. Definitely not my cup of tea.

I went Singapore with Rui Lin and Kai Ming on the 20th December and stayed at my uncle's house for a week. We went there by bus on our own! Can you believe that? We visited the Singapore Zoo as well as Night Safari. Both made me exhausted but fun.

We went Marina Bay Sands too. It was the first time I actually looked inside a casino and get a feel about it. The architecture structures are beautiful.
